Dr. Abdollah Behzadi

Dr. Abdollah Behzadi graduated from McGill University, Faculty of Medicine, in 1995. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada after completing McGill General Surgery Training Program in 2000. In 2001, he was certified by the American Board of Surgery and subsequently became a fellow of American College of Surgeons. He completed his thoracic surgery training at University of Manitoba where he also obtained a master of business administration in 2003. He has advanced fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Gastro-esophageal Surgery from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Behzadi’s current areas of special expertise include minimally invasive surgery for the lung, mediastinum, esophagus, stomach, and hyperhidrosis. He is a thoracic oncologist at Peel Regional Cancer Centre and a thoracic surgeon at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. He serves as the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is an education lead in surgery at Mississauga Academy of Medicine. He is a member of many professional societies including, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, European Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, and Canadian Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He also serves as a peer assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and is a member of Lung Site Group, Cancer Care Ontario.

Dr. Esther Lau

Dr. Esther Lau obtained her medical degree at the University of Toronto and completed her General Surgery residency at Western University. She then completed Thoracic Surgery training at McMaster University, and subsequently pursued advanced fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Lau has a clinical interest in thoracic oncology and minimally invasive thoracic surgery, including robotic-assisted surgery. She helped launch the first Thoracic Robotic-Assisted Surgery program at Trillium Health Partners, where patients now have access to robotic-assisted lung resections.

Dr. Adam Mohammed

Dr. Sameena Uddin

Dr. Sameena Uddin is a thoracic surgical oncologist with a focused practice in thoracic surgical oncology, including lung, gastroesophageal, and other malignancies of the mediastinum and thorax. Her clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, malignant pleural effusion and improving outcomes for thoracic malignancies. Dr. Uddin graduated with her MD from the University of Western Ontario; completed her residency in General Surgery at McMaster University; followed by fellowship training in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Toronto. She currently holds a number of leadership roles at Trillium Health Partners including as Physician Lead for Special Projects and Planning in the Trillium Health Partners Oncology Program and Regional Cancer Centre, Board Member of the Trillium Health Partners Foundation, and Medical Director of the Thoracic Diagnostic Assessment Program. Provincially, Dr. Uddin is a member of several OH Cancer Care Ontario initiatives including The High Risk Lung Cancer Screening Expert Panel, Ontario Thoracic Cancers Advisory Committee, as well as contributor in the development of pathway maps for both Lung and Esophageal Cancers. Dr. Uddin maintains an adjunct lecturer role through the University of Toronto teaching various courses including Bioethics, Portfolio and CBL in the undergraduate curriculum, as well as regularly receiving postgraduate residents and fellows from across Ontario. Dr. Uddin’s main professional interest is in ensuring cancer care is high quality and innovative but given with compassion to patients and their families as they navigate the cancer journey. In her past role as Program Chief and Medical Director of THP Oncology, the shared focus was and remains on revisioning the Oncology Model of Care. In alignment with THP’s vision to create “A New Kind of Health Care for a Healthier Community”, the Oncology Program is working to create a more coordinated system of care for patients, caregivers and their families. This new Oncology Model of Care will collaboratively promote and sustain the delivery of evidence informed, standardized, high quality, specialized cancer care.
